Pricing
In order to give access to a wide-range of organisations from SMEs, charities, local government on a budget or a corporation who needs to deliver comms efficiently, we have adopted a flexible pricing model.
And we’re upfront about it. We need to make money, just as much as our clients do, so we have priced ourselves at the lowest rates possible and we deliver great work with lots of added value as a result.
So… here’s some ideas about pricing:
Model 1 – Hourly Rate
Clients can choose to work on an hourly rate (from £50) and we provide timesheets to account for all our work. We can also cap the spend so clients know exactly how many hours they are getting and what the bill will be.
Pros: Very flexible for small budgets.
Cons: Projects often throw up unexpected issues that can ‘eat’ time. If you choose the hourly rate model, we do recommend you consider this for a minimum 3 month period, that way if one project overruns on time, it can be taken from the following month’s budget without you exceeding your budget.
Model 2 – Day Rate
Our day rates are very competitive, starting at only £400 whereas consultancies in London charge out at £1000+ per day. Day rates are great, especially if you want the Tricolor team to come and help you deliver projects in-house. This works well if we are delivering training, on-site consultancy, negotiating on your behalf or project management. It covers travel and expenses (within reason of course!) and means that you get quite a lot of deliverables and one-to-one advice from our team.
Pros: Great for in-house work or when we work for larger agencies as it’s easy to manage, we’re able to come to you and yep, there’s a lot that can get done in a day.
Cons: When the day is done, the day is done. Day rates require planning to achieve maximum effectiveness.
Model 3 – Monthly Retainer
By and far the best option for clients who want to maximise on their returns. Not only do you get the deliverables agreed, but you also get the advice, consultancy, the management time including meeting minutes, agendas, planning and us on-site when you need it – all for an agreed monthly cost. These contracts tend to last for a minimum of 3 months and we often add to our account teams when we specialist advice is required, at no extra charge. This fully integrated and affordable approach means the budget is managed but clients get real benefit. Additionally, we can offer discounts on our retainers if clients choose to sign up with us for six months or more.
Pros: Best value for money; multiple experts as part of package; feeling of being part of your team; free management time and discounts for longer-term contracts.
Cons: Deliverables for the month need to be planned in advance, however, we can help you do this as part of the package.
Model 4 – Project Costs
Some clients aren’t sure if they need our help long-term (we’d like to argue but sadly, that’s how the cookie crumbles). That’s why we’re happy to agree a project cost in advance and stick to it. So for example, you have a one-off tender you need submitting and someone on your team’s called in sick, you could use Tricolor to get the job done on time and with flair, without having to commit to an hourly rate or long-term monthly retainers.
Pros: Easy to commit to on short-notice, quotes can often be drafted within a couple of hours.
Cons: Because it’s more difficult for us to build a long-term relationship with clients using this system, some of the added value features are not offered. We do not offer Basecamp to one-off clients, but we do offer the lite version Backpack to host any project related files.
Model 5 – Pick and Mix
Want to build a campaign but would rather choose from a list of tactics and have professional deliver them for you? Then Pick and Mix is best for you. After an initial conversation we would send you a complete list of suitable tactics and the unit prices for each so you can choose exactly which ones you want.
This approach is great if you want to try new tactics and evaluate their effectiveness without over-committing. They provide a ‘taster’ for clients to test different promotions and narrow down which communications tools work best for them.
Model 6 – Buy a Package
For some types of work we are able to package up services that we know are required when delivering results. For example:
- PR Campaign – starts at £400
- Customer Database Review – starts at £400
- Visual identity consultation and design updates – starts at £400
- Consultation session – starts at £400
- Funder Reports and Monitoring Services – starts at £400

Referral Incentives
* If you can introduce us to new clients who decide to work with us, we'll give the introducer 5% of the value of the contract.
